WHEN TO VISIT?
Udo Island is a year-round destination, but you’ll have the best experience during the spring and fall.
Spring (March to June) starts cool (5–15°C) and warms to 15–25°C by late spring. It’s a great time for sightseeing with vibrant blooms, though it can be crowded toward the peak months.
Summer (July to August) sees temperatures rising to 25–30°C, with warm, humid weather ideal for beach lovers. The island can get crowded, and the heat may be intense for some visitors.
Autumn (September to November) offers comfortable temperatures around 15–23°C, making it a pleasant time for outdoor activities. It’s a quieter time to visit, though occasional rain showers may occur.
Winter (December to February) brings cooler temperatures between 0–10°C, with fewer tourists providing a peaceful experience. However, chilly winds can make outdoor activities less enjoyable, and some attractions may be quieter during this time.
HOW TO GET HERE?
There are two departure ports on Jeju and two arrival ports on Udo. Ferries depart from Seongsan Port and Jongdal Port on Jeju and arrive at either Cheonjin Port or Haumok-dong Port on Udo. The most frequent route operates between Seongsan and Cheonjin.
We took an early ferry to Udo Island and the ride takes only 15 minutes. The first ferry from Seongsan Harbor starts at 7:30 a.m. and from nov-feb at 8:00 a.m.
PRICE | ₩10,000 | €7 | US$7 round trip
HOW TO GET AROUND?
You can explore Udo Island on foot, which takes about 6 to 7 hours. If you prefer cycling, it will take roughly an hour to complete the loop without any stops. Alternatively, public buses run every 15 minutes but may be less frequent during the off-peak seasons. During our visit in November, the cold and windy weather made cycling less appealing, so we chose to rent a small electric bike for the day at one of shops, which you can’t miss when departing from the ferry. It was fun and convenient, though quite expensive.
If you rented a car in Jeju you can take your car with the ferry ONLY if you are traveling with a baby, an elderly person or if you’re staying overnight on Udo.
To rent an electric bike consider that vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road and you will need the following:
You must be at least 21 years old
Valid local driver’s license
Valid International Driving Permit
Cash for payment
PRICE | ₩35.000 | 23€ | US$24 for 5 hours.

WHERE TO EAT?
Every meal in Udo revolves around peanuts and black pork. Black pork is a specialty only in Jeju and the peanuts grow in Udo.
We decided to make a stop at HAHA HOHO Cafe, it is such a lovely cafe and so incredibly delicious. Their masterpiece are black pork burgers with peanut sauce and a peanut gelato shake. They even serve Jeju Garlic shakes, but we preferred to go for the peanuts. We ordered the shrimp burger, fries and asked if we could have peanut sauce instead of tartar. You have to try it!
